This is a high-impact role for an experienced Engineering Manager who blends strategic leadership with hands-on problem-solving. You’re comfortable guiding engineers through complex challenges, making architectural decisions, and jumping into technical investigations. With strong backend expertise, database experience, and a focus on product quality, you’ll drive meaningful outcomes across the platform.
This is an excellent opportunity for an innovative executive to join the team leading the digital transformation of elite athletics.
Game Plan - How You'll Drive Impact:
- Own engineering workstreams that span the platform, prioritizing technical initiatives based on customer impact, system reliability, and business value.
- Guide the investigation and resolution of high-priority production issues—personally contributing to debugging, log analysis, and backend fixes when needed.
- Collaborate with Product, Support, and Engineering teams to triage issues, align on priorities, and drive long-term stability improvements.
- Lead and grow a high-performing team of engineers focused on system reliability, performance, and resolving customer-impacting challenges.
- Serve as the technical point of contact for escalations, incidents, and postmortems—ensuring clear communication and timely resolution.
- Analyze recurring issues and operational pain points to uncover root causes and inform scalable solutions across the stack.
- Proactively identify blockers and drive continuous improvement across tooling, workflows, and team operations.
- Build internal tools, scripts, and utilities that improve the experience for both end users and internal teams.
- Represent the voice of the customer by surfacing insights and technical pain points to inform product and engineering decisions.
- Uphold high standards around data security, privacy, and compliance in all engineering work.
- Foster a team culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous learning—especially in a fully remote, distributed environment.
Player Profile - What You Bring to the Team:
- Proven ability to lead teams supporting SaaS platforms in a complex, cross-functional environment.
- Demonstrated track record of solving complex technical problems, from production debugging to long-term architectural improvements.
- Strong technical background in backend development—comfortable working with Python, Node, Go, or Java.
- Experience with databases (e.g., Postgres, MySQL) and comfort writing or reviewing queries to troubleshoot and resolve data issues.
- Comfortable working with RESTful APIs, including testing, validating payloads, and assisting customers with integration issues.
- Ability to investigate backend logs and application errors, synthesize findings, and deliver actionable insights to Engineering and Product teams.
- Ability to independently set team priorities, balancing technical risk, customer impact, and business goals.
- Strong instincts for root-cause analysis and translating insights into scalable engineering solutions.
- Strong communication skills—you can translate technical insights for product and support teammates, and articulate complex issues clearly.
The Ideal Recruit - Skills & Experience:
- Experience in sports technology or supporting products for athletes, coaches, performance staff, or sports organizations.
- Prior experience managing remote teams and cultivating a culture of accountability and continuous learning.
- Understanding of data security and privacy protocols, especially while handling sensitive customer data in compliance-heavy industries like sports and NIL.
- Comfort working with large-scale data workflows, including imports, exports, and format transformations (e.g., CSV manipulation).
Champion Mindset - Traits for Success:
- Technically strong, solutions-oriented leader with a big-picture mindset and a passion for driving platform stability and product excellence.
- Takes initiative and thrives in fast-paced environments, with the ability to stay focused, organized, and detail-driven amid shifting priorities.
- Confident decision-maker who moves quickly but thoughtfully, applying technical rigor to solve high-impact problems.
- A leadership style that is direct, focused, and execution-minded—yet able to inspire, develop, and challenge others.
- Clear, concise communicator who brings clarity to complex situations and collaborates effectively across engineering, product, and support.
- Self-motivated and disciplined, with high personal standards and a commitment to delivering high-quality results.
- Aligned with our core values: honesty, humility, hard work, commitment, innovation, and exceptionalism.
