Graphic Design Intern
Virtru
About Virtru:
While the rest of the security industry obsesses over locking data down to prevent it from being lost or stolen, we're doing something fundamentally different at Virtru. We're setting data free so that you can intentionally share it with others, but without sacrificing security, privacy, or control.
We've created both a suite of powerful data protection applications and an open platform that's sparking an ecosystem of innovation. Through the Trusted Data Format (TDF) open standard, we're not just protecting data; we're creating a new paradigm where security enables sharing rather than preventing it.
Think of us as the Android of data protection: a robust platform with an open core that developers and partners can build upon, coupled with our own best-in-class applications that showcase what's possible when you reimagine security from the ground up.
Backed by Iconiq Capital, Bessemer Venture Partners, Foundry Capital, and Tiger Global, we're helping Fortune 500 companies and government agencies discover that true data security means having the freedom to share, collaborate, and innovate — without compromise.
This is a paid Summer 2026 Internship. This is a temporary, full-time internship. Candidates must be able to commit to a 10 week program in Washington DC.
Compensation: $20 - $24/ hour
Team & Position Details:
As a Graphic Design Summer Intern, you will report to our Creative Director and work closely with a collaborative, cross-functional creative team to support and evolve our brand across multiple touchpoints. You’ll help bring ideas to life through visual design, contributing to projects that span digital marketing, product storytelling, social media, presentations, and internal communications.
We’re looking for a creative, motivated intern who’s excited to grow their design skills in a real-world environment and gain hands-on experience working on a modern tech brand. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys visual problem-solving, is eager to learn from feedback, and wants exposure to the full creative process—from concept to execution.
This is a great opportunity for a student or early-career designer who is exploring different areas of graphic design, such as brand, marketing, or digital design, and wants to understand how design supports business and product goals in a technology-driven company.
Though we are a cybersecurity company, we do not expect you to have a background in cybersecurity—most of us didn’t when we started. We’re looking for someone who is curious, enthusiastic, detail-oriented, and excited to learn.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in designing visual assets for digital channels (social media, web, email, presentations, etc.)
- Support brand consistency across marketing and internal materials
- Collaborate with the Creative Director and other stakeholders on creative concepts
- Iterate on designs based on feedback and project needs
- Help organize and maintain design files and brand assets
- Consistently enhancing the web experience on Virtru.com while adhering to brand standards. Create responsive and user-friendly wireframes, graphics, and visual elements using design software (e.g., Figma and the Adobe Creative Suite)
- Prep files for smooth handoff to other team members according to guidelines and specifications (Knowledge of filetypes, exporting, etc.)
- Stay current with emerging design trends, technologies, and best practices in design, and proactively bring new ideas to the table
Requirements:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related field
- Experience with design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Figma)
- Strong attention to detail and visual aesthetics
- Ability to take direction, ask questions, and learn quickly
- Interest in branding, marketing, and digital design
- Basic understanding of UX and UI Design principles
- Curiosity and excitement to learn
- Collaboration skills
- Comfortable with asynchronous communication including Slack, email, Zoom, etc.
How to Stand Out:
- Video editing experience or interest (e.g., short-form videos, social content, or basic motion graphics using tools like Premiere Pro, After Effects, or similar)
- Basic print and layout experience
- A portfolio (student or personal work is totally fine)
- Strong communication (especially when things go wrong, because they will)
- Strong eye for detail
- Strong opinion, with the understanding that your way isn’t always the right way
- Think outside the box and respectfully challenging your teammates and managers in the pursuit of excellence
- Strong sense of urgency, with an action-oriented mindset
As a Virtru Summer Intern:
During the interview process, you will meet with your Manager and discuss role expectations, your interests, and your skills. As a Virtru intern, you will work closely with your team and assist with challenging tasks and responsibilities to help Virtru come closer to achieving our goals. And of course, if you would like to learn more about something, just ask.
In the Internship Cohort, you will be managed by your internship coordinator and HR advocate, Bella. Organized events, such as games nights, career workshops, and speaker series sessions are planned and executed specifically for interns.
As an important team member of Virtru, you will be included in company-wide meetings and events, including one-on-one sessions with your department’s executive leader (giving you a peek as to what it’s like working with us full-time)!. You will gain real-world, hands-on learning and contribute to critical elements of an enterprise Software as a Service (SaaS) business. You will be joining a highly collaborative company, with the opportunity to reach out to anyone for questions, with a summer mentor and HR advocate to assist you with internal networking!
Events to note in the ten week summer session:
- First week of Onboarding, just like a full-time employee!
- Weekly sessions with your HR advocate, 1:1 and in a group setting
- Two formal feedback sessions
- 1:1 session with Executive Leader
- In-office visit mentorship
This internship is for learners ready to work in a connected hybrid environment. While we are not a strict 9-5 work environment, you will be responsible for timely responses in Slack, email, and meeting attendance.
