The Role

First Due is seeking a tech-savvy, customer-focused Fire Prevention subject matter expert to work as an Implementation Product Specialist – Fire Prevention. In this role, you will work with Fire & Life Safety agencies across the United States to implement and optimize First Due’s Fire Prevention modules, including Inspections, Permitting, Invoicing, Online Payments, Fire Investigation, and ITM (Inspect, Test, Maintain). You will provide industry-leading leadership, guidance, and support as First Due continues to build its best-of-breed end-to-end Fire and EMS platform.

The ideal candidate has direct experience working within a U.S. Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and understands the regulatory, operational, and compliance requirements that govern fire prevention programs.

Responsibilities

  • Act as an Implementation Product Specialist for First Due’s Fire Prevention modules in the United States.
  • Work directly with new customers to efficiently and effectively configure and optimize Fire Prevention workflows, including inspections, permitting, invoicing, online payments, fire investigation, and ITM compliance tracking.
  • Partner with Implementation Project Managers to successfully implement and launch First Due for Fire & Life Safety agencies of varying sizes and complexities.
  • Configure inspection programs aligned with International Fire Code (IFC), NFPA standards, ICC codes, and applicable state and local fire code adoptions.
  • Configure permitting workflows including construction permits, operational permits, system permits, and special event permits.
  • Implement fee schedules, invoice structures, penalties, and online payment integrations consistent with municipal finance practices.
  • Configure ITM (Inspect, Test, Maintain) workflows including contractor submissions, deficiency tracking, impairment documentation, and compliance verification.
  • Support configuration of fire investigation workflows including documentation, reporting, and integration with NFIRS/NERIS where applicable.
  • Stay educated on module functionality, configuration options, and evolving U.S. regulatory and compliance requirements.
  • Provide guidance on applicable codes and standards to both customers and First Due’s Product Management team.
  • Maintain a full understanding of features being developed in current and future sprints, as well as the Fire Prevention product roadmap.
  • Document product gaps arising during implementation and collaborate with Product Management to ideate scalable solutions, particularly those tied to compliance or AHJ-specific workflows.
  • Participate in regional and national user group meetings, conferences, and industry events, both virtually and in person.
  • Develop a deep understanding of competitors’ capabilities within the fire inspection, permitting, and compliance software space.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Direct experience in U.S. Fire Prevention operations (Fire Inspector, Fire Marshal, Deputy Fire Marshal, Fire Prevention Officer, or similar role strongly preferred).
  • Strong understanding of International Fire Code (IFC), NFPA standards, ICC codes, and common U.S. fire code enforcement models.
  • Familiarity with fire inspection programs including annual inspections, re-inspections, complaint inspections, new construction inspections, and special event inspections.
  • Experience administering permitting programs, construction permits, operational permits, and associated fee schedules.
  • Working knowledge of ITM compliance programs, contractor reporting, deficiency management, and impairment tracking.
  • Familiarity with municipal invoicing processes and public-sector online payment systems.
  • Experience implementing SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) platforms, including customer onboarding, configuration, and go-live support preferred.
  • Experience with public safety software platforms or government permitting systems preferred.
  • Ability to take customer requests, determine the desired end state, and provide a clear and efficient path to the optimal solution.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to train and present to users with varying technical backgrounds.
  • Exceptional project management skills: ability to manage multiple customer implementations simultaneously.
  • Patient, responsive, supportive, and respectful; adept at presenting, responding to feedback, and constructively overcoming obstacles.
